FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 19, 2023

MOBILE, Alabama – The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office has announced a plan to collect the outstanding restitution that is owed to Mobile County victims.  For the first time since 2011, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office will have a warrant officer on staff whose responsibility will be to serve warrants to those individuals who have evaded payment.

“This is an important service we provide for the victims of crime,” says Keith Blackwood, Mobile County District Attorney’s Office. “We have a duty to the citizens of Mobile County to secure and return money that is owed to victims.”

The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office has two financial recovery units, one that pursues worthless checks to compensate victims {Check Enforcement Unit} and one that pursues restitution owed to victims {DART}. Both Check Enforcement Unit and DART make multiple attempts to contact the individuals who owe funds to victims including phone calls, emails, and letters in the mail. Now, with the addition of having a warrant officer on staff, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office will be making arrests for those who have yet to make payment arrangements.

Those individuals who have received a phone call or a letter in the mail, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office urges those to make payment arrangements as soon as possible to avoid arrest.
