Andre Landrum Found Guilty in 1997 Cold Case Rape

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 6, 2026

MOBILE, Alabama – A Mobile County jury has found Andre Landrum guilty of Rape First Degree, Rape Second Degree, and Burglary First Degree, announced District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

The convictions stemmed from a 1997 cold case in which Landrum broke into a Mobile County home where the victim, a 15-year-old girl, was sleeping. Evidence presented at trial showed that Landrum held the victim at knifepoint before sexually assaulting her.

Following the assault, investigators recovered male DNA evidence. At the time, however, the DNA profile did not match anyone in law enforcement databases. Years later, through continued investigative work involving Landrum, authorities obtained a DNA sample that matched the evidence recovered from the 1997 crime scene, ultimately leading to his identification and conviction nearly three decades later.

District Attorney Keith Blackwood stated:

For nearly three decades, the victim carried the weight of this horrific crime. Thanks to the jury, we were finally able to give the victim the justice and closure she deserves. This verdict is a powerful reminder that we will never stop pursuing justice for victims in Mobile County.

The State of Alabama was represented by District Attorney Keith Blackwood, Assistant District Attorney Louis Walker, Trial Coordinators Carolyn Lambeth and Patricia Parker.

Sentencing for Andre Landrum is set for June 18, 2026.
