MOBILE, Alabama – Jaymon Johnson has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following his convictions for Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault First Degree, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment, announced District Attorney Keith Blackwood.
Johnson was previously found guilty by a Mobile County jury on all counts stemming from a March 2023 drive-by shooting that killed 34-year-old Dajarra Jackson and endangered multiple juveniles.
Evidence presented at trial established that Johnson opened fire on a parked vehicle occupied by several juveniles. Jackson was killed while walking away during the shooting. A 15-year-old victim suffered a grazing gunshot wound, while additional juveniles were placed in danger by the gunfire.
Today, Judge York sentenced Johnson to 25 years in prison for Murder, 20 years for Attempted Murder, and 10 years each for Assault First Degree, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment. All sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a sentence of 25 years in prison.
District Attorney Keith Blackwood issued the following statement:
“Dajarra Jackson lost her life because of a senseless act of violence, and several young people were placed directly in harm’s way. Drive-by shootings are among the most reckless crimes we see because they endanger everyone nearby, not just the intended target. Our thoughts remain with Dajarra’s family and all of those whose lives were forever impacted by this shooting.
The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Catlin along with Trial Coordinator Stacia Rogers, Investigators Don Boykin and Robbie Morrow and Victim Service Officers Leigha Arthur and Reagan Frost.
