MOBILE, Alabama – A Mobile County jury has found Xavier Dixon guilty of Provocation Manslaughter, Shooting into Occupied Vehicle and Shooting into Unoccupied Dwelling announces District Attorney Keith Blackwood.
On January 17, 2023, defendant Xavier Dixon opened fire on unarmed victim Martyn Hands while Hands was in his vehicle at the entrance of an apartment complex on Girby Road. Dixon fired off 13 shots into Martyn Hands vehicle using an AR-style weapon killing Martyn Hands. One of those 13 shots entered an unoccupied apartment at the complex.
After a few hours of deliberation yesterday afternoon, a jury of Dixon’s peers unanimously found him guilty of the above-mentioned charges.
“This verdict sends a clear message that taking a life will have consequences,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “Our prayers are with the victim’s family, and we hope this outcome brings them some measure of closure.”
The State was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Katy Sipper and Dylan Szymanski, Trial Coordinator Karlene Vesely and Victim Service Officer Reagan Frost.
Sentencing for Xavier Dixon is scheduled for May 22 in Judge Windom’s courtroom.
