MOBILE, Alabama – A Chunchula man has been convicted of Sodomy 1st of a Child Less than 12 and Sex Abuse of a Child Less than 12, Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announces this afternoon.

In October of 2022, Jon Dufrene sexually abused and sodomized the victim, who was only 8 years old at the time the incident occurred. This week during his trial, the brave victim took the stand, holding her abuser accountable for his actions. Once the jury began deliberations, they rendered a verdict of guilty in 47 minutes.

“We are relieved by this verdict and hope the family feels comfort as they can now close to this horrific chapter,” says Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “We will continue to prosecute Jon Dufrene holding him to account for each atrocious act he committed on behalf of our victims.”

Dufrene is also charged with Attempted Sex Abuse of a Child under 12. That case is currently pending District Court.

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Theresa Harris and Trial Coordinator Jillian Williams.

Judge Phillips has set sentencing for Dufrene on 12/2/2024.
