MOBILE, Alabama – The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office announces that co-defendants in a 2021 robbery at Berkshire Apartments in Mobile have pled guilty.
Jam Longmire also pled guilty to an unrelated trafficking marijuana charge. On July 22, 2021, Demarcus Longmire, Jamon Merrida and two other individuals, including the deceased Calvin Horne Jr., conspired to rob a victim at the Mobile apartments. During his participation in the robbery, Calvin Horne Jr. was killed. The defendants were initially charged with Felony Murder, a Class A Felony, and pled to Robbery 1st Degree, also a Class A Felony.
Judge Brooks followed the State’s recommendation and has sentenced Demarcus Longmire and Jamon Merrida to 20 years, split to serve 5 years in prison, following by 5 years of formal probation. Longmire also was sentenced to 20 years, split to serve 5 years in prison, followed by 5 years of formal probation on the trafficking marijuana charge.
“We are thankful that the defendants chose to take responsibility for their actions, and after consulting with the robbery victim in this case, we feel this is the appropriate outcome.”
The fourth individual allegedly involved; Javin Merrida has a status date set for March 13, 2025.
