Mobile Man Found Guilty of Manslaughter for 2020 Fatal Shooting

MOBILE, Alabama – Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announces that Winfred Stallworth has been convicted of Manslaughter for the 2020 fatal shooting of Nikil Merrida.

On May 10, 2020, Nikil Merrida was found on Kooiman Street deceased from multiple gunshots. Prosecutors presented evidence that the casings at the scene matched the defendant, Winfred Stallworth’s gun. Stallworth initially lied to Mobile Police Department during questioning but later admitted he did shoot the victim. 

“We are proud of this outcome, and we thank the jury for their careful consideration, and commitment to ensuring that justice is served,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

Sentencing for Winfred Stallworth is set for October 3, 2024.

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Michaelyn Gober and Dylan Szymanski along with Trial Coordinator Kristine Henderson.
