MOBILE, Alabama – A Mobile County jury found Jamal Hicks guilty of Murder in the November 24, 2023, shooting death of Joe Henderson.
During trial this week, jurors heard evidence that the defendant believed Henderson had stolen something from his porch. Hicks confronted Henderson who was with his girlfriend at a gas station and struck Henderson with a pistol. Henderson and his girlfriend left on foot, while Hicks drove away. Hicks then waited for them at a nearby intersection, where he shot and killed Joe Henderson.
“Joe Henderson was walking away. Jamal Hicks had driven off, but he chose to wait for Henderson and confront him again with a gun,” said District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “A dispute over something Hicks believed was stolen ended with a man dead and a family grieving. Gun violence turns ordinary disagreements into irreversible loss, and we will hold those who make that choice fully accountable.”
The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Richard Foreman, Trial Coordinator Brooke Stanford and Chief Investigator Don Boykin.
Hicks is scheduled to be sentenced on November 4, 2026.
